At 74 years old, John Caffrey is a dedicated volunteer and Sea Scout leader with over 25 years of service at 1st Sutton Sea Scouts. His commitment to teaching sailing has impacted thousands of young people, many of whom have pursued careers in the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy, inspired by John’s guidance. He instructs children weekly, fostering a love for sailing and scouting in a supportive environment for youth from diverse backgrounds across north Birmingham. Beyond sailing, John actively participates in community initiatives, including running a Saturday morning café and assisting with remembrance and ceremonial events, making a lasting difference in his community.
