80th Anniversary of D-Day – Thursday 6th June 2024

Yesterday, I was honoured to witness the lighting of the beacon in Wolverhampton on the 80th anniversary of D-Day as High Sheriff of the West Midlands.

A heartfelt thank you to the Mayor of Wolverhampton for the invitation to join this momentous occasion. Commemorating the bravery and sacrifice of those who served is a powerful reminder of our shared history.

June 6, 1944, stands as a defining moment in history when Allied forces embarked on a mission to liberate Europe from oppression. The soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy exhibited unparalleled bravery and selflessness in the face of unimaginable challenges, forever altering the course of World War II and shaping the future of our world.

The beacon’s glow symbolises the enduring spirit of those who fought on D-Day, illuminating our path with their courage and sacrifice. Their legacy serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the profound impact of their actions.
