Acorns – Wednesday 30th October 2024

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with Trevor Johnson, the CEO of Acorns Children’s Hospice, as High Sheriff of the West Midlands. Acorns is a remarkable organisation that provides vital support and care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the West Midlands. I was eager to learn more about the amazing work they do in what is Europe’s largest Children’s hospice.

Trevor shared the mission and vision of Acorns, emphasising the importance of creating a nurturing and supportive environment for children facing serious health challenges. It was heartwarming to hear how Acorns not only focuses on providing complex clinical care and short breaks for families but also offers a range of services that cater to the emotional and physical needs of both the children and their families.

It was inspiring to hear about the innovative approaches Acorns are implementing to address the challenges they face particularly in terms of funding and resources. We discussed the ongoing need for continued community support and engagement and how crucial it is for organisations like Acorns to raise awareness about the services they provide.

I feel a strong commitment to advocate charities in the West Midlands. It’s organisations like this that remind us of the power of compassion and the importance of supporting our most vulnerable. I’m looking forward to exploring ways to continue to amplify Acorns’ and am a real advocate of their amazing work. The impact they are making is truly commendable.
