As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I had the privilege of attending the “Dining for Dignity” event for Birmingham Hospice, hosted by Chair Dawn Ward CBE. This special event showcased the incredible work of Birmingham Hospice, which provides free care and support services to individuals living with life-limiting illnesses.
The event highlighted the recent rebranding of Birmingham Hospice, which merged Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and John Taylor Hospice in 2023. This merger has allowed Birmingham Hospice to expand its reach and impact, providing expert care directly to patients and partnering with healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for each individual.
It was inspiring to see the commitment of Birmingham Hospice to improving the quality of life for those facing life-limiting illnesses, as well as supporting their families and loved ones during difficult times. Birmingham Hospice is calling on the government to do more to ensure that hospices are properly funded, so they can continue to provide expert palliative and end-of-life care for all local people who need it.
