I had the honour of attending the Diwali Basket Brigade (DBB) as High Sheriff of the West Midlands. This has become an annual event for me and one that I have attended in many different roles since its inception. It really is a masterclass in community cohesion in so many ways.
Over 2,500 hampers were packed by more than 200 enthusiastic volunteers all of whom are dedicated to supporting those in need across the West Midlands. These hampers were then distributed to amazing charities and organisations, including @rmhcuk (Ronald McDonald House), HAOS, @stbasils.charity (St Basils), and WHG.
I had the opportunity to speak alongside Jean Templeton, CEO of St Basils, Connie Jennings from WHG, and the Mayor of the West Midlands, @mayorwestmids, Richard Parker. I shared my insights on the importance of such events and the impact it has on our community.
This experience truly reinforced the spirit of Diwali—community, kindness, and generosity. A heartfelt thank you to Deepak and all the volunteers and supporters who made this event such a success.
