I attended my very first event last night, just 24 hours after my declaration ceremony as the High Sheriff of the West Midlands.
The Feast Youth Project is a charity which brings young people from different faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds together, creating safe spaces for them to talk about faith, beliefs, and values, to learn from one another and to build lasting friendships. Each year, during Ramadan, The Feast holds an Iftar for the young people, their families, and members of the community.
It is always a celebration of friendship, faith, and food. This year, the young people took a lead, in preparing food, setting up the room, serving people and leading prayers.
I was delighted to be able to speak about my role and also gave an overview about my chosen charity of the year, http://kidsvillage.org.uk
Thank you to all for an enjoyable evening and to Andrew Smith and Jill Appleton for inviting me. This event really was community cohesion at its very best and the perfect start to my year.
