As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I had the pleasure of attending the Indian Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony at the Consulate General of India in Birmingham. It was a packed event where our community all came together.
The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by speeches and cultural performances. The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the enduring values of democracy, peace, and justice that India upholds.
I had the opportunity to deliver a short speech to share my own journey and the significant influence that several Indian people have had on my life and career. The event was not just a celebration within the Indian community but also for fostering cultural understanding and harmony in Birmingham’s multicultural landscape. It was a privilege to be part of this celebration and to witness the spirit of unity amongst all the attendees, social cohesion at its very best.
