As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I enjoyed a wonderful morning at the Mayor of Walsall’s annual carol service at St. Matthew’s Church in Walsall. The event was a beautiful celebration of the festive season and a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community.
The readings and reflections shared during the service reminded us of the spirit of Christmas and the importance of community.
I also had the pleasure of speaking with various attendees, including local families, volunteers and community leaders. It was inspiring to hear about the positive initiatives taking place in Walsall and the collaborative efforts to support those in need during this time of year. I particularly enjoyed hearing the infant and junior choirs sing from Blue Coat
After the main service I had the privilege of watching the the Mayor deliver a Walsall tradition which dates back to 1830, The Bun and Shilling Ceremony’. It was very special and wonderful that it’s been delivered most years for almost 200 years!
As High Sheriff I am committed to promoting community cohesion across the West Midlands. Events like this carol service play a vital role in fostering connections and encouraging goodwill among residents.
I extend my thanks to the Mayor of Walsall for hosting this very special Carol Service and to St. Matthew’s Church for their hospitality.
