Midlands Air Ambulance Charity – Tuesday 28th May 2024

šŸš I had the great pleasure of visiting the The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Hub as High Sheriff of the West Midlands. The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is a lifeline for the West Midlands, having completed around 75,000 missions across the region since its inception 33 years ago. The Charity provides vital and often life saving assistance to the emergency services by flying specialist paramedics and doctors to accident scenes by helicopter and by road at night! It costs approximately Ā£3000 every time a helicopter is dispatched, and all of their incomeĀ comes from from fundraising and donations.
It was very great to have a tour of their cutting-edge new facility on the Shropshire/West Midlands Border and to meet some of the the crew that deliver such a vital service. At 20 years old, some 38 years ago, Ā I myself had a very bad road traffic accident that resulted in a very long hospital stay. Getting the right specialist help to the scene of an accident is truly vital and time is greatly of the essence. They can reach the centre of Birmingham in around ten minutes by air. This charity really is best in class and making a huge difference to the West Midlands and surrounding counties. Ā Thank you for inviting me and truly inspiring me.
