I had the privilege of attending the Midlands Air Ambulance Recognition Awards. It was an inspiring evening dedicated to honouring the exceptional individuals who contribute to emergency medical services across our region. As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands I was able to speak about my own personal journey where a similar organisation played a significant part in my own life following a major road traffic accident.
A particularly poignant moment of the evening was presenting the Star Award in recognition of Iain Hughes. He was a dedicated member of the West Midlands Fire Service who tragically lost his life while swimming the English Channel in an attempt to raise money for charities including Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. The award was received by two of his colleagues.
I am grateful to have been a part of this celebration and to have recognised the remarkable contributions of those who contribute to this amazing charity.
