As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I had the privilege of attending the 77th Independence Day celebration organised by the Overseas Asian Network.
It was a very poignant occasion and I was pleased to be given the opportunity to speak at this event thanking the community for their exceptional contribution to the regional economy and all they do to promote social cohesion. We heard from @High Commissioner of Pakistan who reiterated the significance of Independence Day and the progress made by Pakistan since 1947. The cultural performances and music reflected the rich heritage and traditions of Pakistan.
It was a lovely evening where the pride of the Pakistani community in Birmingham shone through. From a personal point of view it was very special to be in attendance with my very dear friend @Nasir Awan whose family contribute so very much in so many different ways.
