As High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I recently had the pleasure of visiting the award winning Reloved Brum, an innovative concept charity shop by Birmingham Hospice located on Harborne High Street. Birmingham Hospice now operates 21 retail shops and the income funds a significant part of their essential services and running costs. I was hosted by Lucy Watkins who is their Income Generation and I also met several volunteers who so generously give their personal time to support this very special charity.
Reloved Brum opened its doors in August 2023 and has quickly become a vibrant hub for the community. This premium store offers a unique shopping experience that goes far beyond a traditional charity shop. I was impressed by the inviting atmosphere, which includes an in-store café and a community space. Every purchase helps Birmingham Hospice provide essential care and support to local families in need.
Currently hospices are having a very difficult time as their financial model is compromised by the amount of central funding leaving a short fall due to significantly higher operating costs.
