As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I had the pleasure of attending the WAITS Charity ball alongside distinguished guests, including Wade Lyn, Deputy Lieutenant of West Midlands. Councillor Ken Wood, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Lady Mayoress Barbara Wood, Simon Foster, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner and Keith Stokes, Chair of Birmingham Commonwealth Association.
WAITS (Women Acting in Today’s Society) is an exceptional charity that has been making a significant impact in our community for over 30 years. They support more than 500 women and their families affected by domestic abuse, providing vital services like advocacy, counselling, refuge, workshops and employment skills to help them rebuild their lives.
During the event, I was given the opportunity to speak. I shared my thoughts on the importance of WAITS expressing gratitude for their work and acknowledging the crucial role of volunteers in sustaining charities like this.
It was an honour to be invited to this event where they also recognised some of their exceptional supporters and volunteers with special awards.
