My first visit as High Sheriff of the West Midlands to the Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre (BCFJC) was scheduled to provide an insight into the operations and leadership at the facility. The visit included meetings with key personnel, including judges, management team, and civil teams, to understand the various functions and digital projects undertaken by the centre.

My days itinerary at the Court included:

– Meeting with the Civil and Family Leadership Judge’s discussing the court’s civil and family work.

– Engaging with the HMCTS Management team in the boardroom of the Lewis building to understand the administrative aspects of the centre.

– Spending time with the civil teams on the 3rd floor to observe their operations and digital projects.

– Meeting with His Honour Judge Williams in the boardroom to discuss business and property matters.

– Participating in the afternoons civil hearings to observe courtroom proceedings and case management.

The visit provided valuable insights into the functioning of the Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre, showcasing its role in handling civil, family, and specialised jurisdictions. The engagement with judges, management, and civil teams highlighted the dedication and professionalism of the staff in delivering justice and supporting the community. The digital projects and initiatives undertaken by the centre demonstrate its commitment to innovation and efficiency in legal proceedings.

Overall, the visit was informative and insightful, offering a comprehensive understanding of the operations and leadership at the BCFJC.
