High Sheriff Events

I had the privilege of visiting the Aching Arms charity as High Sheriff of the West Midlands. It was a pleasure to meet their Founder, Leanne Turner, Business Partnership Lead, Helen Gallagher, and Merchandiser, Sharon Knox. I had been kindly invited to visit their Halesowen hub by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Hilary Bills, who was accompanied by her consort, John Bills,  and Vicky Shakespeare from Halesowen BID

Aching Arms, formed in 2010, is there to help when you have experienced the heartbreak of losing your baby during your pregnancy, at birth or soon after. The charity offers a beautiful comfort bear to fill your arms and a community to support you as you grieve. Each bear is given as a gift to let you know that you are not alone. The charity works with over 175 hospitals across the UK and donates over 8000 bears a year

It was an incredibly moving experience to learn about the vital support the charity provides to families who have experienced the loss of a baby. They shared the details of the charity’s work and how they support families in our local community and nationally.

During our visit we had the opportunity to meet one of the dedicated volunteers who works tirelessly to ensure that families receive the compassion and support they need during such a difficult time. This really is an exceptional and best in class charity which their founder has used her own personal grief to support thousands of parents each year.
