It was a privilege to visit the High Heath Hub in Walsall and witness f the incredible work being done to support the community and promote safety for all. As the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, I am always inspired by the sense of community cohesion that organisations like the High Heath Hub foster.
The High Heath Hub, a not-for-profit social action community project situated in High Heath, Walsall, was established in January 2019 by Mr. Harjit Singh and Mrs. Navjot (Jodie) Kaur. Mr. Singh has played a pivotal role in supporting local school children facing challenges by facilitating connections with Birmingham City Boxing Club and Wildstar Boxing Club to name just a couple. These clubs offer young people activities and hobbies that truly guide them away from criminal activities.
Furthermore, the High Heath Hub has actively engaged local school children in joint efforts with hub users to enhance the neighbourhood through numerous events. Addressing issues of loneliness, the hub hosts regular friendship cafés, cinema clubs, and knit natter/craft sessions to foster social connections and combat isolation. The hub has recently expanded its services to include Adult Social Services, free CPR training, safety talks, and the provision of free equipment from the West Midlands Fire Service, all catering to the diverse needs of the community.
During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting lots of community partners as H (Harjit) looks to expand ths community support beyond the Hub. He has involved every partner and agency to form a community leadership group to use attendees collective skills and passion to make their community a more cohesive and safe place. Yesterday was their launch event which was full of energy and passion to work together for the betterment of their residents. I enjoyed speaking aand thank Nisa and Coop both who were in attendance dance.
Every community needs someone like H (Harjit) who I have to thank on behalf of his community and all at yesterday’s launch meeting. A true community champion and exceptional person🤩.
