My wife Amanda and I were delighted to support Monder Ram DL and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham in welcoming HRH The Princess Royal to the International Convention Centre in Birmingham for the annual conference of the Royal College of Midwives.
We were welcomed to the Conference by the President of the RCM Mrs Sophie Russell and the Chief Executive Ms Gill Walton and it was great to hear that on their first visit to Birmingham, they had attracted a significant increase in the number of delegates and that they had an extremely positive experience at the ICC and in Birmingham.
In her keynote address HRH The Princess Royal thanked midwives and maternity support workers for the incredible work they do in transforming the lives of women and their families across the UK every day.
Amanda and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to talk with a number of midwives from all over the UK ( including from the Orkneys, Northern Ireland and Wales ) and we got a real sense of the pride that they rightly have in the critical work that they undertake.
