High Sheriff Award

Giani Sukha Singh

Giani Sukha Singh, founder of the Sikh Helpline, has dedicated over 30 years to supporting vulnerable individuals and families, extending his compassion beyond the Sikh community. Since its inception in 1995, the helpline has provided free, confidential support for issues like mental health, domestic violence, and social isolation, creating a safe space for individuals to seek help without fear of judgment.

Sukha’s advocacy has been pivotal in addressing taboo subjects within the community, fostering open dialogue through outreach in schools, gurdwaras, and media. His self-taught computer skills have enabled him to create live videos of key gurdwara events and develop digital training workshops to combat exclusion. He also organizes annual summer youth camps, supporting over 400 children in the West Midlands.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sukha expanded services to meet increased demand, establishing partnerships with mental health professionals and launching targeted awareness campaigns. His unwavering dedication has strengthened community resilience, reduced stigma, and transformed lives, making him truly deserving of the High Sheriff Award.
