I was delighted to present a High Sheriff’s Award to John Legg at Victoria Law Courts, on his retirement after 34 years as a Magistrate on the Birmingham & Solihull bench.
The Magistrates are the backbone of the Criminal Justice System being responsible for the initial hearing of all cases and in approximately 95% of the cases, the Magistrates Court is also where the cases are concluded. Magistrates act on a voluntary basis for at least 13 days a year and therefore I was delighted to thank John for his service to the County of the West Midlands.
