Robert (Bob) Sandall
Robert, aka Woodcraft Bob is now 84 years old and is still a very active in his role of Founder and Leader of Kingswinford and High Acres Woodcraft Folk which is now into its 57th year.
Bob heads up an active team of volunteers, some of whom attended the group as children including his own sons, Rob and Roy, daughter-in-law Helen along with his grandchildren proving that it really is a family orientated group. They are dedicated to enhancing the lives of the children who attend one of the four weekly groups ranging from the ages of 5 to adult whilst encouraging them to grow in confidence and becoming more independent through the experiences they provided in a safe and nurturing environment.
Kingswinford and High Acres Woodcraft have their own campsite in Kinver where they hold events including 4 weekend camps each year along with a schedule of day activities including The Great British Bird Watch and Easter Egg Hunts. Weekend camps often include walks to Kinver Edge and its rock houses, team building activities such as den building and free time to explore the woodland as well as special events such as the Kings Coronation. Children learn life skills through helping set up and take down tents and assist with catering and the planning and running activities.
During the week long Summer Camp, the much loved Christmas Camp and more group specific weekends they often utilise youth hostel type accommodation giving the children the opportunity to take part in outdoor pursuits such as rock climbing, abseiling and riffle shooting as well as day trips to nearby towns to experience their offerings including museums and seasonal markets.
Bob and his team of committed volunteers invest time into fundraising by hosting events such as quizzes, pub sing-alongs and partnering with local businesses to help keep the costs of the group and activities low ensuring that it is accessible to all.
