Stefanie Lakin
In 2022, Stefanie Lakin established Madrina UK, a registered charity dedicated to providing prom dresses and suits to vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils across the West Midlands. Balancing her work as a full-time teacher at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Solihull, Stefanie also manages her responsibilities as a wife and mother of two.
Last year, Madrina UK supported over 500 pupils, and nearly 1,000 in total over the past two years. With the help of volunteers, Stefanie organizes pop-up prom shops in schools for nominated students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds, young carers, refugees, and pupils with autism. She collaborates with local charities and children’s services to identify families in need while supporting local businesses by providing a sustainable outlet for spare and sample stock. Stefanie’s work has profoundly impacted the lives of young people, empowering them to attend their school prom with dignity and confidence, and championing inclusion, equity, and sustainability.
