High Sheriff Award

The Walsall Community Foundation has been running since 1976, and has been a very important venue for the African Caribbean Community of Walsall and the wider West Midlands for over 50 years.

In recent years it’s Luncheon Club which has been running for over 10 years provides a freshly cooked, hot meal for the community every Wednesday, whilst also allowing the community to have a place to socialise, play dominoes and bingo, go on day trips and receive information during presentations on a range of interesting and relevant topics.

The Association also runs Family Fun Days, Bank Holiday BBQ’s, Black History Month Events and many more community events frequently throughout the year.

Yvonne Vassell is not only the current Chair of the Association, she has been involved for over 40 years and is still the driving force behind the Luncheon Club, both procuring and then preparing the food. I was delighted to recognise this incredible service to her community through the presentation of a High Sheriffs Award.
