I was pleased to attend Behind the Screens, a thought-provoking event that brought together professionals, practitioners and individuals with lived experience to explore the challenges of online abuse and harassment.
As High Sheriff, one of my key priorities this year is supporting the safety and wellbeing of women and girls. Given the disproportionate impact that online harms can have on women and girls, this was an especially important and relevant discussion.
It was insightful to hear perspectives from colleagues at West Midlands Police, who shared their experiences of tackling online offences and supporting victims. Equally powerful were the contributions from those with lived experience, whose personal stories highlighted the real and lasting impact of harassment and abuse.
The event reinforced the importance of partnership working in addressing these issues and creating safer environments for everyone, both online and offline.
My sincere thanks go to Professor Laura Hammond and Antonieta Fostier for arranging and hosting such an informative event and for bringing together a diverse range of voices to discuss this important topic.
