High Sheriff Events

I was delighted to visit Thrive Together Birmingham recently and learn more about their inspiring work tackling poverty and building stronger, more connected communities across the West Midlands.

My thanks to Karen Yeung for the introduction and to Fred Rattley for sharing Thrive’s vision and the important work they are doing to ensure that the voices of those experiencing poverty are heard by those who can help drive positive change.

We discussed the Church of England’s Coming Home report, which highlights the vital connections between housing, employment, rehabilitation and community stability. What resonated with me most was the emphasis on dignity, belonging, relationships and hope.

I was particularly encouraged by the synergy between Thrive’s mission and my own focus on supporting stronger, safer and more connected communities. By bringing together individuals, businesses, voluntary organisations, churches and community groups, Thrive is helping people not only overcome challenges but also look to the future with renewed confidence.

I look forward to continuing our conversations and exploring opportunities to work together in support of communities across the West Midlands.
