High Sheriff Events

I was  delighted to attend the West Midlands Fire Service Trainee Firefighters Pass Out Ceremony, marking the successful completion of training by the Service’s newest firefighters.

The ceremony was a proud and memorable occasion, celebrating the determination, resilience and professionalism demonstrated by the trainees throughout their rigorous training programme. Having successfully met the demanding standards required of modern firefighters, they now begin careers dedicated to serving and protecting communities across the West Midlands.

A particularly special moment was seeing the presentations made by Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill, whose leadership and commitment to the Service were evident throughout the ceremony. It was inspiring to watch each recruit recognised for reaching this important milestone and formally welcomed into the Fire and Rescue Service family.

What always moves me at events such as these is that the achievement extends beyond the individuals receiving recognition. Families, friends and loved ones shared in the pride of the occasion, having supported the recruits through months of hard work and sacrifice. The sense of excitement and accomplishment in the room was truly infectious.

As High Sheriff, I have seen first-hand the extraordinary work undertaken by our emergency services. The calibre, enthusiasm and professionalism demonstrated by these new firefighters gives me every confidence that the people of the West Midlands will continue to be served by individuals of the highest standard.

My warmest congratulations go to everyone who passed out at the ceremony. I wish them every success and safety as they begin their careers, and I thank them for choosing a profession dedicated to helping others, often in the most challenging of circumstances.
