One of the roles of the High Sheriff is to entertain the visiting and resident Judges and Magistrates and at the start of my shrieval year I decided I would take the opportunity to showcase a number of the cultural assets of the West Midlands.
Therefore in March, I had the great pleasure of taking a number of Judges and Magistrates to see Prima Facie at The Birmingham Rep and then Matthew Bourne’s Red Shoes at the Birmingham Hippodrome. We were joined by The Rep’s Artistic Director Joe Murphy and the Hippodrome’s Chief Executive, Jon Gilchrist who explained a little bit about the history of the theatres, but also about the amazing work that is being done with young people in the region, to give them an opportunity to engage with theatre and potentially pursue their passion through careers in the sector.
