Attending the Midlands Economic Summit was a valuable opportunity to join business leaders, community organisations, public sector representatives and policymakers in a conversation about the future prosperity of our region.
The discussions throughout the day were both insightful and encouraging, focusing on how we can better support businesses to grow, create opportunities, and ensure that jobseekers across the Midlands can access the skills, networks and pathways they need to succeed.
As High Sheriff, I have the privilege of meeting people from every corner of society. One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is the ability to bring people together, creating connections between businesses, voluntary organisations, community groups and public services. By building stronger relationships across sectors and communities, we can unlock opportunities that benefit everyone, helping individuals thrive while supporting the wider economic and social wellbeing of the Midlands.
In my remarks at the Summit, I reflected on the importance of collaboration and the value of looking beyond organisational boundaries. Many of the challenges we face are shared, and the solutions often emerge when people come together with a common purpose. Whether supporting local enterprise, creating employment opportunities, or helping individuals overcome barriers to work, partnership remains one of our greatest strengths.
My sincere thanks go to Ninder Johal DL for organising such an excellent event and for bringing together such a diverse and influential group of leaders and practitioners. His continued commitment to championing the Midlands and fostering meaningful collaboration is greatly appreciated.
I left the Summit feeling optimistic about the opportunities ahead and encouraged by the collective determination to ensure that businesses, jobseekers and communities across the Midlands can prosper together.
