I had a most enjoyable morning at Sandwell College presenting Learner of the Month awards to students who have been commended by the teachers for their positive attitude towards their studies.
Sandwell College has grown rapidly in recent years and is now the largest provider of over 100 courses in technical and vocational education to 16-19 year olds in the West Midlands.
I was invited by Lisa Clapper, CEO and Principal of the College to share a little bit about my career journey with the students and we talked about the importance of taking responsibility for one’s career, that one doesn’t have to have all the answers at every stage and that most people change there minds on career direction at various points – but possibly most important of all, it is critical to try and find something that one enjoys and feels passionate about and then success will invariably follow.
I also had an opportunity to talk a little bit about the role of the High Sheriff and answer a range of questions, and was generously presented with a certificate highlighting key features of the role.
