I was honoured to attend a service at Birmingham Cathedral alongside the Lord-Lieutenant Derrick Anderson CBE and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham to welcome the Right Reverend Esther Prior as the new Bishop of Aston.
The Right Reverend Bishop of Birmingham Dr Michael Volland led the service and it was a joyous occasion which reflected Bishop Esther’s heritage and personality. She was born in Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe and following her sermon, we were treated to a hymn performed by the Zimbabwean Singers of the Mothers Union.
I was honoured to have the opportunity to be one of the Civic Leaders invited to welcome Bishop Esther to the City and I noted how much I looked forward to working with her our areas of common interest related to fairness, justice and compassion.
