The Birmingham and Solihull Magistrates Association Social Event was a highly engaging and enjoyable occasion, bringing together colleagues from across the region in a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose.

We were also honoured to hear from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal, whose inspiring speech resonated strongly with all present. His personal journey – from a labourer to serving as Lord Mayor – was both moving and motivating, serving as a powerful reminder of the opportunities that dedication and public service can create.
A key highlight of the evening was the thoughtful and insightful discussion around the challenges of recruiting magistrates. Attendees contributed a range of perspectives, openly sharing both concerns and innovative ideas. It was encouraging to see such energy and commitment in the room, with several practical suggestions emerging that will help shape a clear and proactive plan going forward.
