I had an interesting visit to the Probation office in Walsall to see the Unpaid Work facility.
This facility was established about 3 years ago and allows people to undertake their Unpaid Work requirements in producing Dental Hygiene packs that are then distributed to schools across Walsall and Wolverhampton. This collaboration with NHS England, the department of Education, local councils and a local fabric company saw over 12,000 packs delivered last year and the facility is exploring additional products which it might distribute going forward ( eg Dog blankets ).
The facility is particularly useful for those people on Probation who continue to have Childcare responsibilities or who may not be physically able to undertake some of the outdoor projects which are commonly used.
