I was honoured to join the Lord-Lieutenant, Derrick Anderson CBE, the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Rachel Lancaster and the Minister for Veterans and People, Louise Sandher-Jones MP in welcoming His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany and His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent to Coventry Cathedral.
The service was led by The Very Reverend John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry with the final blessing by the Right Reverend Sophie Jelley, Bishop of Coventry.
There were readings in both English and German, including from students who are part of the Coventry-Dresden school link and it was very poignant and encouraging reminder of the focus on peace and reconciliation that exists between the two cities, as well as the critically important relationship between the two nations.
