Together with the Lord-Lieutenant and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham, Amanda and I were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester to officially open the Edmonds Transplant Centre at the QE Hospital.
The QE is one of Europe’s busiest organ transplant centres and it was a real pleasure to meet the doctors and staff who work in the facility, as well as a number of patients who continue to have the chance to enjoy fulfilling lives as consequence of the brilliant work being done.
The centre was the brainchild of Dr Nick Murphy and it was only made possible through the incredible generosity of many people, but most notably the staff and shareholders of AF Edmonds & Co Ltd who made an incredible donation to mark the Company’s 150th anniversary. It was so inspiring to meet the current Managing Director Mr David Edmonds to learn about the ethos of the company and its commitment to support local charities.
