I was delighted to visit the Community Plaza in Birmingham accompanied by the Lord Mayor.
The Community Plaza is the relatively new home to a range of projects which started in 2013 and which support a diverse range of people in some of the most deprived areas of Birmingham.
There is a strong focus on sporting activities to attract young people in particular, but these are then used to start a dialogue around issues such as knife crime, homelessness and drugs and more recently there have been projects supporting women with issues such as continuing education and challenges associated with domestic violence.
The Plaza is typically used by over 800 people a week and now has a kitchen facility to provide much needed food – and the Lord Mayor and I enjoyed sharing a meal with a significant number of young people from local Romanian communities during out visit.
