I was delighted to visit the Erdington site of Birmingham Hospice with my Chaplain Rev’d Canon Becky Reeve, to meet the CEO Paul Bytheway and Head of Fundraising Lucy Watkins.
As with many Hospices, the range of work and support that is provided by those at Birmingham Hospice to those with life limiting conditions, extends well beyond the inpatient care provided in the 2 buildings in Erdington and Selly Park. Significant work is also carried out in the Community to enable patients to continue to live at home surrounded by loved ones, and on average, Birmingham Hospice provides vital support to 670 people every day.
More than 50% of the funding for the Birmingham Hospice comes from its own fundraising activities, with over 20 retail stores across Birmingham, supported by volunteers, making a major contribution. In addition, during 2025, the Charity launched the Bulls in the City initiative which not only raised substantial sums, it also brightened up the streets of Birmingham over the Summer months.
