It was a pleasure to visit King Edward’s School and spend time with a group of Year 13 students on their final day before embarking on the next stage of their journeys.
We then enjoyed an open and engaging question-and-answer session, discussing the exciting opportunities that lie ahead after school. The students spoke about the industries and careers they hope to pursue, and it was encouraging to hear their ambitions, enthusiasm and thoughtful aspirations for the future.
Our conversation explored how they can best present themselves to prospective employers, from demonstrating their skills and experiences with confidence to embracing opportunities for personal growth and remaining open to learning throughout their careers. It was wonderful to see such curiosity, maturity and willingness to ask insightful questions as they prepare for the transition into higher education, apprenticeships and the world of work.
Following our discussion, I was delighted to be given a tour of the school. Learning about the rich history of the buildings was fascinating, and one of the highlights was visiting the beautiful chapel. I was particularly interested to discover that it had been carefully dismantled, brick by brick, from its original site on New Street before being painstakingly rebuilt on the school grounds in the 1950s – a remarkable achievement that preserves an important part of the school’s heritage.
The visit also provided a wonderful opportunity to present a cheque on behalf of Pertemps to King Edwards School, knowing that the Lord Mayor’s Charity will be a beneficiary, following the school’s impressive victory at the Mega Quiz. It was a delight to congratulate everyone involved on such a fantastic achievement and to celebrate their success.
I would like to thank the staff and students of King Edward’s School for their warm welcome .
