I had a most enjoyable visit to Oldbury United FC and met top with the Founder and Chair Keith Thompson.
Keith explained that the club had gone through some difficult times in the past, but in recent years, it has grown dramatically. There are now almost 40 teams operating under the Club with opportunities for Boys and Girls of all ages up from 6 years old, as well as adult Men’s and Women’s teams. The teams are managed and trained by a range of volunteers ( many of whom are parents ) on weekday evenings with matchs played at the weekends.
Keith also explained that many of the young people are undertaking introductory Coaching courses and obtaining qualifications and experience which are helping them go on to secure training and employment.
The Club is a fantastic example of how volunteers across a community can come together to support the provision of activities which make a really positive difference to people’s lives.
