I am most grateful to Jean Templeton, Chief Executive St Basils for taking the time to meet me and show me a couple of the supported accommodation schemes that they are currently operating in Birmingham.
St Basils provides a holistic range of accommodation and support services to young people aged 16 -25 who are homeless, vulnerable or at risk. They have been operating for over 50 years and focus on prevention, provision of accommodation and education, training and employment services.
In 2023-24, St Basils provided advice to nearly 4,000 young people and accommodation to over 1,000 of them across more than 40 schemes. And it is so encouraging to note that 87% of young people moved on from St basils in a planned and positive way.
