I had the great pleasure of meeting the Chief Fire Officer, Simon Tuhill at WMFS Head Quarters in Nechells today.
WMFS operates 70 vehicles from 38 stations across the County and employs just under 2,000 people. We talked about the 3 key pillars of the Strategy 2024 -27 around Prevention, Protection and Response and I got to observe the Control centre and the technology used to deploy vehicles in a manner whereby response times can be less the 5 minutes.
I was also hugely impressed by the SafeSide facility which is used to provide training and guidance to a significant number of young people across the county in a wide range of areas including Fire, Water, Police, Bus, Rail, Health, Home and even Retail settings.
