I had an enjoyable and highly informative visit to the offices of the Probation Service based in Coventry.
It was somewhat amusing to note that the Probation service is based in Sheriff’s Court and when a member of the public asked if I was here to meet the Sheriff, I noted that I was actually the Sheriff, which he was somewhat taken aback by.
The current head of service in Coventry has been in post since the Summer of 2024 and she noted that they have made significant progress in the last 18 months to recruit additional resources and address the increasingly high demands being placed on the service. She was particularly pleased about the strong relationship with WM Police in the city and the success of a recent pilot programme supporting young people with issues connected with substance misuse.
