High Sheriff Events

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Walsall Community Association and what a truly inspiring place it is. Established in 1976, the centre has been at the heart of the community for almost 50 years, providing a welcoming and inclusive space where people can come together, build friendships, and support one another.

What struck me most was the extraordinary commitment of its Trustees and volunteers, many of whom have dedicated 40 or even 50 years of service, and the sense of continuity, with members attending since their youth and remaining part of the community decades later. The centre offers a wide range of activities, from its much-loved luncheon club to social events, health sessions and cultural celebrations, all of which contribute significantly to the wellbeing of those who attend.

This is far more than a building; it is a lifeline for many. With additional investment, the centre has exciting potential to expand its reach even further and benefit more people across Walsall. I wish Darren and the team every success as they look to the future and continue their remarkable work. Pictures Darren Mitchell (Centre Manager) and Mrs Nora Walker (95 year old club member).
