High Sheriff Events

When we think about emergency services, our minds naturally turn to the frontline professionals who respond when we need them most. What the West Midlands Ambulance Service Excellence in the Community Awards demonstrated so clearly, however, is that there is a much wider community standing alongside them.

The evening celebrated people from all walks of life who have chosen to give their time, skills, energy and compassion in support of others. Whether through voluntary service, community action, business support or individual acts of kindness, each recipient had played a part in strengthening their community and supporting the work of the ambulance service.

As I listened to their stories and helped present a number of awards, I was reminded that strong communities are built by ordinary people doing extraordinary things, often without seeking recognition. The awards provided a welcome opportunity to pause and acknowledge those efforts.

Thank you to Anthony Marsh and everyone at West Midlands Ambulance Service for a memorable evening that celebrated not only achievement, but also the values of service, responsibility and compassion that are so evident across the West Midlands.
